Sydney is enduring more scorching weather today as an unseasonable April burst of heat contues to fry New South Wales.

The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast a high of 35 degrees with light winds and a chance of a late rain shower in the afternoon as a hot air mass slowly moves across the state.

Weatherzone meteorologist Graham Brittain told 9News.com.au that the boiling conditions are expected to reach their peak between 2pm and 3pm this afternoon and recommended people take precautions.

“This time of year, the sun isn’t as strong in summer but it’s still worth keeping the sun cream handy and keeping in the shade. UV  levels will be very high - so keep hydrated,” he said.

“It might be worth nothing that this heat might trigger some thunderstorm activity later this afternoon.

“If storms do eventuate, we’ll see quite significant cooling in the afternoon and temperatures will drop quite significantly to the low 20s.”
